Eight months ago Brian Clark moved to Song of the Morning yoga retreat center in upper Michigan- a space to live his contemplative vocation of meditation, consciousness, and creativity.
Because of my time at Song of the Morning Yoga Retreat, I reestablished my contemplative practice (at least for now). If you are interested in beginning a contemplate practice, here are a few resources that were helpful for me along with a few books Brian recommended.
Be Here Now by Ram Dass
Mysticism: A study in Mans Spiritual Consciousness by Evelyn Underhill
The Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley
Farming god episodes:
Thanks to everyone at song of morning for their hospitality. Music by Isak Sommer
Welcome to Farming god a Sunday morning podcast on people and places.
This is Yoga retreat part 3 a series on my time at a yoga center in northern Michigan. You could garner more context by listening to Yoga pt.1 and 2 but they aren’t essential to enjoy this episode.
People come to song of the morning retreat center for different reasons. Monica came for an internship, Audrey to run the community farm, Chip, to visit his brother, and Brian to live and work in a place that aligns with his vocation. But like most experiences, we inevitably leave with more than we came for.
If any of this conversation entices you to begin a meditation practice. I’ve shared some helpful links in the show notes.

WHY DID you COME TO SONG OF THE MORNING
**I was on the internet looking for internship. And become the only person from my school.
Internship helpful for my career while learning how to do practical work.
**3:22 What can you take back to real world
Intention, mindfullness, compassion, patience
One thing that’s become apparent here is everyone is on their own path. All you can do is be patient that every one is different places for different reasons.
Audrey: I think that’s true. People come here
6:38** I’m not the kind of person who want’s to live by myself. We need people.
All our success is dependent on how much $ we have
I was just taking a picture of the water. Just wanting to see what the filters do
WHAT DO YUO THINK ABOUT THE TRIP
Ithas been pretty good. A good thing. A good sort of reset in a way. It’s weird being back in society. It’s weird interacting with other people It seemed like we were all more in tune. It was just a thing. When you leave it’s not really like that
YOU THINK IT WILL CARRY OVER?
I hope it will. YOur environment effects who you are. From within yourself you can change your ENVR. It will interesting to see what happens
